Go to sectionUbiqsome® has scored another point for cardiovascular health, unveiling a possible mechanism that leads to statin-induced muscular asthenia, alleviating the side effects of one of the most widely used drugs in the world, and contributing to the maintenance of pre-treatment health conditions.
Indeed, muscular parameters in people taking Ubiqsome®, the original CoQ10 in Indena Phytosome® formulation, are effectively preserved by counteracting statin-induced asthenia, as measured in a strength test.
This stands as further evidence that formulation matters! Because for any bioactive substance, reaching the target is an essential requirement to ensure efficacy; and this is especially true when protection is needed.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), also known as ubiquinone or ubidecarenone, is a key endogenous factor in cell energy production. It has shown protective properties against oxidative stress, mainly in skeletal and heart muscles and, more recently, at the endothelial level.2,3,4
CARDIOVASCULAR OXIDATIVE STRESS PROTECTION
Endothelial function is an important early marker for cardiovascular risk, reflecting the ability of the endothelial layer to fight early pro-atherosclerosis conditions. Since endothelial dysfunction is primarily driven by ROS and NO deficiency, the antioxidant potential of Ubiqsome® could be a valuable ally to maintain the endothelium in good health, beyond any other available on the market.
A recently published study on healthy young people has confirmed this hypothesis, showing an improvement of endothelial function in both acute and chronic settings after the administration of Ubiqsome®.3
MUSCULAR OXIDATIVE STRESS PROTECTION
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are overproduced during intense training and exercise, contributing to muscular stress and damage. A study on healthy, aging runners showed that the administration of Ubiqsome® optimizes plasmatic and muscular CoQ10 concentration, counteracting oxidative stress right where it’s needed.5
Another recent human study, focusing on cardiovascular subjects, showed Ubiqsome® also has beneficial effects on elderly people with statin-related asthenia. What is the mechanism behind this evidence? Statins act by blocking the molecular pathway that leads to the synthesis of cholesterol, and in parallel also to the formation of CoQ10. Thanks to its original Indena Phytosome® formulation, Ubiqsome® reaches the right cellular concentration and – unlike any other supplement – makes a difference at the muscular level, balancing the induced low levels of CoQ10.1
CoQ10 provides essential antioxidant protection, crucial for managing specific health challenges, including some tied to the aging process.4 Skeletal and cardiac muscle cells naturally have the highest CoQ10 content, directly impacting tissue functionality. However, the distribution of dietary CoQ10 is not the same among the different tissues of the human body, with muscle being the least responsive.2
This is where Ubiqsome® emerges as the real game-changer in the field: thanks to its original Indena Phytosome® technology, recent studies have unveiled that this food-grade, highly bioabsorbed Coenzyme Q10 based ingredient excels at delivering its core component to the intended target muscle cells, reaching the goal better and faster.2
Ubiqsome® ensures optimal CoQ10 plasma levels even after just one dose, and shows an evident dose-dependent trend after a mere 2 weeks of supplementation.4
Ubiqsome® is the only CoQ10 formulation to benefit from Indena Phytosome® delivery system, a strategy that optimizes the bioabsorption of this important cofactor.
Outstanding clinical results have been accomplished, thanks to the innovative Indena Phytosome® technology platform, also in enhancing one of CoQ10’s limiting factors: oral bioavailability and muscle cells uptake. The coenzyme’s high molecular weight and its very low aqueous solubility usually make it unsuitable for the oral administration route: that’s where the Indena Phytosome® delivery system is particularly useful, improving and optimizing the uptake for more refractory cells and tissues.2,4
In addition, Ubiqsome® is the first CoQ10 formulation to have been tracked down to its real target, the inner space of cells where it is needed.
