Since the 70s, studies on Melilotus based preparations effect on the lymphatic system have been published. The intravenous administration of Melilotusextract on 10 healthy volunteers increased lymphatic flow from the thoracic duct, confirming its limphokinetic properties.
Figure 1: Mean values of limphatic flow (mL/min) in the thoracic duct after intravenous injection of 6 mg and during the infusion of 15 mg of Melilotus based preparation.
The venotonic activity of Melilotus was first established based on experiments on animals. Borzeix, for example, in the late 70s, reported that Melilotus-based preparations increased venous and lymphatic circulation in rabbits with venous hind leg stasis.
