Thiocolchicoside, a skeletal-muscle-relaxant compound with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, is a derivative of colchicoside, a natural glucoside of the Gloriosa superba flower seeds. Thanks to its potent selective bind to the GABA-A receptor, it is used as an adjuvant product to treat painful muscle contractures, both in rheumatic and traumatic ones.
Thicolchicoside has a high affinity for GABA receptors, activating the GABA inhibitory pathways, and for glycine receptors leading to a muscle relaxant result. This is the reason why it is considered useful in alleviating Parkinson’s disease and iatrogenic Parkinson symptoms.
Furthermore, it could be used for acute and chronic lumbar and sciatic pain, persistent torticollis, cervico-brachial neuralgia, post-traumatic and post-operative pain.
